Tips on Helping Your Home and Yard Recover from Winter

February 26, 2013 2:04 pm

Spring is here and warmer months are ahead, here are some tips on helping your home and yard recover from winter and prepared for summer.

  • Inspect exterior wood structures (children's play set, fences, deck, etc.) and see if they need painting or re-sealing.
  • Hammer down any deck nails that have popped up over winter, better yet replace them with deck screws.
  • Check your roof for loose or broker shingles.
  • Check window and door screens for tears.
  • Clean up any leaves, branches or other debris that may have fallen onto your lawn over the winter months.
  • Inspect concrete driveways, patios and sidewalks for cracks, repair with concrete caulk or patch.
  • During the months you won't be using your fireplace, install a screen over the chimney to keep out debris and animals.
  • Check attic fans and vents to make sure that proper ventilation is maintained during the warmer months of spring and summer.
  • Clean lint from your clothes dryer exhaust to reduce the risk of fire and to improve the performance of the appliance.
  • Check swimming pools; pump connections, diving boards and slides for cracks, damage or loose fittings.

I hope these tips help you prepare your home for the upcoming spring months. If you, friends or relatives ever need help in buying or selling a home we hope you keep us in mind.
